« Night of the Castles 2021» : a welcome dive into the 14th century

LADEPECHE.FR - 1/11/2021

The results of this weekend of activities and visits to Goudourville Castle were very positive, with a large number of visitors spread over two days.

Geneviève and Jean-Christophe, the owners, deploy their energy to keep the building alive, whose origins date back to the 11th century, and protect it with heart from the ravages of time. During this weekend, Geneviève was in charge of explaining with pleasure, passion and humour the history of the castle, the specificities of the 14th century, famines, black plagues and the 100 years war... And to share in counterpoint, the daily life in a chastellenie, an estate with its inhabitants around a castle, which often constituted a refuge during this so eventful period. The luckiest visitors were those who were able to watch the sunset from the ramparts on Saturday evening. The torch-lit exterior and candlelit interior revealed the castle in an atmosphere of another time. The 9 p.m. night tour was packed!

The owners, supported by family and friends, called on the Toulouse medieval animation company "Oriflamme" (1). Specialised in historical mediation, Oriflamme proposed animations that were both entertaining and educational. Visitors were able to discover medieval recipes in the old kitchens, try on weapons and armour, better understand coats of arms and create their own. The more adventurous were introduced to archery. To fully immerse themselves in the place, others dressed up in costume, thanks to "Dame Valérianne's workshop", all this between two acrobatics of a facetious jester and the regular visits of the plague doctor specially invited for the occasion...

Two hundred castles, mainly in France, but also in Spain, Switzerland and Belgium, registered for the third Nuit des châteaux. Goudourville was the only one in the Tarn-et-Garonne to take part in this national event, to the delight of all..
