Launch of a fundraising campaign

The Renaissance staircase and the medieval guardroom at risk

Today, although the Château de Goudourville no longer faces the torments of history, it is the ravages of intense and increasingly frequent rainfall that are the trials to overcome. Despite the major work carried out by the current owners over the last 20 years on the roofs, the waterproofing of the Château de Goudourville is still an ongoing battle. The terrace above the Renaissance staircase needs to be redone as a matter of urgency: if the foot of the sheaf supporting the top of the staircase breaks, the whole staircase collapses. Not to mention the repeated water infiltration in the Guard Room, which is damaging the walls of this vast room.

The emergency is the installation of channels to channel the rainwater and the waterproofing of the platform above the staircase.

Today, the ravages of intense and increasingly frequent rainfall are the trials and tribulations of Goudourville Castle. Despite the major work carried out by the current owners over the last 20 years on the roofs, the waterproofing of the château de Goudourville is still a battle. The terrace above the Renaissance staircase needs to be redone as a matter of urgency: if the foot of the sheaf supporting the top of the staircase breaks, the whole staircase collapses. Not to mention the repeated water infiltration in the Guard Room, which is damaging the walls of this vast room.

The urgent need is to install channels to channel the rainwater and waterproof the platform above the staircase. In view of the urgency of the work to be carried out, and taking into account the compulsory closure of the château with Covid-19 and the cancellation / postponement of many bookings, the Château de Goudourville is launching a campaign to collect donations as quickly as possible, with the support of the VMF Foundation.

The work, which is estimated to cost €72,000, is divided into two phases: the waterproofing (€45,000) and the consolidation of the top of the staircase (€27,000). The first phase of work started in March 2020 and was completed in May, despite all the restrictions linked to the Coronavirus pandemic. The owners had to finance the first stage in very difficult economic conditions. This is why they are launching a crowdfunding operation. They hope to raise at least €20,000 before the end of September. The second stage of the work, which is intended to restore the foot of the staircase and its palm tree-shaped vault, has been postponed.

All donations will benefit from a tax deduction of 66% for individuals and 60% for companies. Thus, if a person donates €100, it will cost €34 after tax deduction. Depending on the amount of the donation, he or she will be able to take part in an exclusive evening, benefit from a tree planted in his or her name or even sleep at the castle! For a company, a donation of €2,500 will cost €1,000. As a patron of the château, they will be able to take part in a prestigious evening and benefit from a historic venue to organise an event at their convenience.
