The Archaeological and Historical Society awards its trophies

LA DEPECHE DU MIDI - 6 april 2022

The Archaeological and Historical Society of Tarn-et-Garonne, founded in 1866 by Canon Fernand Pottier and chaired by Georges Passerat, has been honouring project leaders in the fields of history, art history, heritage, archaeology and prehistory every year for the last 50 years.

The prize-giving ceremony took place at the Château de Montauriol, in the presence of Catherine, Vice-President of the Departmental Council and Valérie Rabault, Member of Parliament. The two terracotta trophies representing « The Parietal Hand » et la « Venus of the Fruits of Tarn-et-Garonne» were created at the Espace Bourdel under the direction of Christian André-Acquier.

They rewarded two remarkable cultural initiatives. The first was awarded to Geneviève and Jean-Christophe Mifsud, owners and «gardiens-passeurs» of the Château de Goudourville, who have been restoring the building for 22 years. «You can admire the Renaissance staircase that leads to the stylish guest rooms. Numerous events around the site make this place a haven of culture and celebration. »

The second prize was awarded to the Compagnie des écrivains de Tarn-et-Garonne, of which Pierre Desvergnes is president, for the completion of the publication of the 12 volumes of the collection "Images et visages de Tarn-et-Garonne".

Catherine Bourdoncle recalled that the Departmental Council contributes to the restoration of rural heritage and communal buildings with a grant of €472,000 for 2022. The aid provided in 2021 was €219,000.
