The castle of Goudourville, committed to its region, brings itself up to date
Today, the Château de Goudourville welcomes holidays stays, reunions with family or firends, birthdays, weddings... This allows French groups as well as English, American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand groups to discover or re-discover our region, its history and its art of living
It also opens its doors to seminars or events for companies wishing to celebrate a success, thier anniversary or to grow better or differently...
Outside of these rental periods, the Château de Goudourville organises historical tours to introducs the rich history of the Agenais and France and weekends open to the public: Heritage Days in September.
These activities have a fourfold purpose :
to make known the castle of Goudourville, a heritage whose origins go back to the 11th century, and its region,
to animate the local life,
contribute to the economy of our region,
to finance the restoration of the building
Today, work is necessary to modernise the equipment and services offered to customers:
• Accessibility for people with reduced mobility & fire safety standards
• Safety and restoration of the top of the Renaissance staircase, to avoid any risk of collapse,
• Increase in accommodation capacity with the creation of an additional room,
• Improving the energy insulation o f the building to allow it to be open all year round,
• Development of a multi-use esplanade and a historical interpretation path on the castle of Goudourville
• Archaelogical study and dating of the frameworks to better understand the building and its past, which il still little known, and to enrich the content of the historical visits.
This development has become necessary, but the technical constraints are strong due to the heritage protection and the estimates budget is very high (€189 000).
The European Community, committed to the development of rural areas
The European Community's Leader programme aims to develop the tourist and cultural economy based on local heritage and to communicate more about the identity of the terroirs.
According too the Region and the European Community, " our territory has a quality tourism potential but it is not sufficiently developed. In particular, it is necessary to improve communication on the existing offer, to improve cultural life and to increase the quality of accommodation. Strengthening local tourism will help to develop the local economy.
Thus, the European Community supports "operations to safeguard and enhance the heritage protected as historical monuments" and programmes to improve accommodation in a quality architectural heritage that is representative of the local identity". Goudourville Castle meets all these criteria.
This is how the EED selected the Château de Goudourville and decided to support its programme, spread over 3 years, up to 35% (max €67,000). This is an invaluable suport for important works both for the building and for the present and future tourist and cultural activity of this place. It is a heart-warming encouragement
A very big thank you to the PETR project manager, who helped us to put together the file and to the decision-makers who validated the funding.
